Tulane’s Welcome TU Launched in New Orleans

An alumnus of Tulane University with a BS in business management, Geoffrey “Geoff” J. Block is an independent manager and entrepreneur who oversees the day-to-day operations of an investment firm in Bluffton, South Carolina. Outside of his profession, Geoff Block is committed to philanthropic efforts, one of which is helping the Tulane University Business School.
In 2022, Tulane University alumni convened at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans to launch Welcome TU. This program welcomes Tulanians who changed residential cities into their new communities. The program is not exclusive to New Orleans; instead, it takes place virtually every city/state where Tulanians find themselves. Additionally, welcome TU takes place multiple times a year at different locations.
Tulane alumni can join relevant programs and engage as Tulane Alumni Association members from their respective locations while connecting with their peer Tulanians at Welcome TU. Tulane Office of Alumni Relations staff will showcase programming opportunities at the event. Typical program categories are regional clubs, professional communities, and affinity programs.

Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber Expect Boom Due to Airport Upgrades

A resident of Bluffton, South Carolina, Geoffrey “Geoff” J. Block is not only an area businessman but is also involved with the community. One organization Geoff Block is involved with is the Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, an organization that is a resource and advocate for the area’s economic interests.

The Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce expects the area to experience a boom due to upgrades to the Hilton Head Island Airport. The Hilton Head Island Airport received $12 million from the state to go toward the $53 million project to improve the airport.

According to a June 2022 article published on the Beauford County, South Carolina website, upgrades are needed to support the area’s growing population. This project also includes the purchase of a parcel of land located on Hunter Road that will be used for additional airport parking. One airport official stated the land purchase is an excellent opportunity for the airport as the county embarks on these upgrades.

Some of the upgrades to the airport will include the addition of 43,000 square feet of space, security upgrades, a new grand hall, three jetways for passengers, and a four-lane passenger drop-off and pick-up area. They will also be making improvements to the baggage claim. The project is expected to begin in the winter of 2022. Further, a project of this size will bring $150 million impact in jobs and materials.
