Lionel Richie’s Charitable Side

To concentrate on managing his family investments, Geoffrey J. Block left Wall Street and established an investment holding firm in 2013. He also formed the Lowcountry Strong Foundation, which partners with community members to help residents of South Carolina Lowcountry. Outside of work, Geoff Block enjoys listening to music and is a fan of Lionel Richie.

A native of Tuskegee, Alabama, Lionel Richie is world-renowned for creating hits such as Hello and Endless Love. He has won four Grammy awards, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, and scores of other accolades. Mr. Richie has also put much effort into charity work. He co-founded USA Africa in 1985 to provide help to Africa, which was experiencing a devastating famine.

Collaborating with the biggest stars in the music world, the original recording of We Are the World helped raise over $60 million for the relief effort. Mr. Richie was recognized as MusicCares Person of the Year in 2016 for a record fundraising of $7 million to be used to provide much-needed help to people in music experiencing hardship. He has also expended support to other nonprofit organizations, including Tuskegee University, The Breast Cancer Foundation, and Unicef.
